All About Amy

Hi! I’m Amy Nadel from NJ, and I am a Sophomore at the College intending on majoring in American Studies and (hopefully) minoring in Management and Organizational Leadership. Last semester I took Introduction to Environmental Science and Policy, and I thoroughly enjoyed the course. This course sparked my interest in environmental justice, so I went on a fall break Branch Out trip to Clagett Farm run by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. It was one of the coolest experiences, and I always love to talk about it! Besides my interest in the environment, I am ecstatic to take my first business class ever. I grew up with an entrepreneurial father who began his own small company, and now my mom and him are co-CEOs. I am really excited to formally learn about business theory, sustainability in that context, and design thinking. In addition, I love being creative and thinking through problems. Even though I have no serious training for this class, I am a hard worker and will do whatever is necessary to keep up.

Outside of the classroom, I love playing Ultimate Frisbee; I’m on the Woolly Mammoths (catch me on Barksdale field)! I enjoy being a part of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. One of the highlights of my week is when I get to go to Berkeley Middle School to mentor my incredible eight grade mentee through Griffin School Partnership. Also, I have received a little taste of higher education administration by serving as a President’s Aide for President Rowe this year.

My summer internship experience taught me many useful, applicable life skills, and I learned more about myself. I worked as an Activities Director at four different resorts on Hilton Head Island. I initially was uncomfortable being thirteen hours from home, but I was able to rise to the challenge of working a full time job and living on my own. Besides resiliency, I learned to be adaptable because every week my co-activity director would change when I rotated resorts. We needed to adjust to each others’ leadership styles by communicating and having an open mind in order to work collaboratively to execute activities.

I will bring my experience being surrounded by business owners, my innovative mindset, my willingness to adapt to new situations, and my passion to the class!
